Foundation of Wijsman
In 1846, Wijsman was founded by Hendrik Johannes Wijsman Barentszoon. With a history spanning more than 175 years, Wijsman has consolidated its position as a pioneer and leading supplier in the field of preserved butter.
First Export to Indonesia
In the early days of Wijsman, transporting butter to distant countries with tropical climates posed significant challenges. In 1900, Wijsman reached an important milestone by exporting butter to Indonesia for the first time. Unlike modern methods of canning butter and transporting it under controlled temperatures, the butter was shipped in wooden barrels.

Start of butter canning
Wijsman’s commitment to innovation, quality, and delivering excellent service led to major developments, culminating in a crucial moment in 1945 when Wijsman began canning butter. This innovation marked a turning point and enabled Wijsman to guarantee the quality and freshness of its butter.
